About Video - Yoreme Al-Leiya in Álamos
Februrary 26, 2017: Yoreme Al-Leiya traveled from nearby Navajoa, Sonora for a special performance for the Daughters of the American Revolution who visit the Hacienda de los Santos in Álamos, Sonora, México twice a year. Anders Tomlinson had the privilege of documenting this colorful evening of dance, music, costumes and theatrical lighting. A wonderful time was had by all.
Since August of 1981, the Technological Institute of Sonora has upheld the job of rescuing, preserving, and promulgating the deepest artistic expressions of the Mexican Dance in the south of the Sonora State. A group of enthusiastic young people was organized and trained in order to form the FOLKLORIC BALLET YOREME AL-LEIYA, which means “cheerful Indian”. The objective was to rescue the cultural historic past of the south of Sonora.

As a part of the University activities and fulfilling the objectives for which it was created, ITSON is on the cutting edge of the struggle to make it possible for each member of the society which it serves capable of assimilating the attitudes and values of our cultural identity. The University intends to make the public aware of a sense of belonging to our community and thereby show the world the cultural wealth that truly corresponds to Mexico.
Nowadays, the Folkloric Ballet Yoreme Al-Leiya is formed by a group of instructors in dancing, singing, music and a team of technicians designing apparel, sound, lightning, and a group of dancers, musicians and singers.
Since November 1981, Javier Ayala Partida has been the General Director and Choreographer of The Folkloric Ballet Yoreme Al-Leiya.
