In the Puranas, the demon Mahishasura created a lot of terror in the war between gods and demons that lasted for a long time. He captured heaven and forced all the gods to take shelter on earth. Then all the gods appealed to all the three gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. They all manifested power with their energy, which appeared in the form of a goddess. In order to make the goddess more powerful, other gods also provided her with weapons. Later, Indra Dev took off from Airavat and punished her for an hour on the mother's head, due to which she got the name Chandra Ghanta. The goddess killed Mahishasura as well as other demons. He was also killed, and then his black avatar also came to the fore. The mixture of gentleness and humility, as well as valour and fearlessness, is seen in Goddess Chandraghanta. It is wonderful to awaken such bravery in all women, which destroys unrighteousness.
